An Opportunity of a Lifetime

I've been given the opportunity of a lifetime. I was selected to participate in a nationwide weight loss contest with the restaurant Genghis Grill. I have agreed to eat healthy options at Genghis Grill everyday for 90 consecutive days for a possibility of becoming the next "Jared". Weight loss, social media posting, and public votes will determine the winner. #ggHealthKwest

MyFitnessPal Review

I've been using My Fitness Pal application on my Android (Evo 4G) phone, and I'm really impressed! It has a very in-depth database of foods, so I just type in what I'm eating and it already has the nutritional value loaded in.

Fiber One bar? check! Dannon yogurt? check! banana? of course! Even the Pink Lady red apples I've been eating for breakfast.

It tracks my caloric intake for the day. The best part about it is that I can add my own meals to the database. There are several individual items from Genghis Grill in the database already (Chicken, broccoli, etc.), but if I come across something that isn't in there, I can add it using the nutritional information on the Genghis Grill website. So, in essence, I can build my own bowl using the My Fitness Pal application.

And let's say I have a favorite bowl that I make once or twice a week. I can set that bowl as a favorite meal and quickly add it next time from my list of "Recent" or "Most Used" items.

Not only does it track your total calories, fat, protein, carbs, fiber, sodium, etc. etc.... but you can set your target weight, or target caloric intake, and it will keep track of how many calories/carbs/protein/fiber you have left for the day.

And here's the best part... it not only tracks nutritional information, but you can enter your cardiovascular or strength training exercises every day. When you add cardio (i.e., elliptical for 30 minutes, 450 calories burned) it will show your calories earned, and adjust your Net Calories for the day, suggesting you have xxx calories remaining.

Another favorite of mine is the Measurements. Every morning I weigh myself, and I can enter my weight into the application. It keeps a graph showing my progress so I can see that declining slope over time. It also has the ability to enter Neck, Waist, and Hip measurements to include in your progress tracking.

This thing is great! But that's just the smart phone application! Everything on the app links to their website, myfitnesspal.com, where you can see all the same information. It also includes reports (such as how many calories you've burned in the last week), BMR calculator, BMI calculator, and an estimate on how much you'll weight if you continue with the same routine.

Here are some screenshtos from their website (not my information):
