An Opportunity of a Lifetime

I've been given the opportunity of a lifetime. I was selected to participate in a nationwide weight loss contest with the restaurant Genghis Grill. I have agreed to eat healthy options at Genghis Grill everyday for 90 consecutive days for a possibility of becoming the next "Jared". Weight loss, social media posting, and public votes will determine the winner. #ggHealthKwest

Status Update - 10% Complete

Wednesday, February 16, 2011
My journey started with my official weigh-in on Monday, February 7, 2011. I weighed in at the heaviest I've ever weighed in my life - 243.6! That was plenty of motivation for me to get back into the gym.

I spent the first week hitting the cardio hard: elliptical, ARC trainer, and stationary bike with plenty of crunches and pull ups. I cut my caloric intake down to about 1,200 calories and my burn in the gym is between 300-400 per night, not including what I do around the house.

My daily nutrition has been as follows:
8:00 hard boiled egg (no yolk), handful of blueberries, and 8-10 raw almonds
9:30 medium red apple
noon Choice 1: Deli Turkey and yellow mustard in a high fiber, low carb tortilla
noon Choice 2: Grilled chicken breast cooked the night before with dry seasonings
2:30 non-fat blueberry yogurt
5:30 Genghis Grill - keeping it under 600 calories, 30-50g carbs, 7-9g fiber, under 10g fat, and under 800mg sodium

I'm drinking well over a gallon of water every day and I've already cut back a notch in my belt. I weighed in this morning after my shower and was amazed at the scale - already down to 224.0! I'm sure the weight was easiest to lose this first week with such a drastic change in my diet, so I'm working out harder to keep it falling off.

This contest has shown me how easy it is to lose weight if you're dedicated and motivated. I'm shopping for mountain bikes right now for the wife and me to stay active and stay healthy after the contest is over.
